Nusa Penida is one of the most picturesque islands in Indonesia. It is located just a short ferry ride away from Bali and I consider it to be the ultimate Instagram Island. There are countless places that are just so beautiful, you have no choice but to photograph it and post it on Instagram. One of the most picturesque places is actually a hotel or Airbnb treehouse called Tropical Glamping.
I stayed a night at this most famous of Airbnbs with its absolutely insane net bed overlooking the ocean. Without a doubt, my night at the Tropical Glamping Airbnb was one of the highlights of my trip to Nusa Penida. This is one of the most unique properties I’ve ever stayed in and one of the most Instagrammable accommodations you’ll find anywhere in the world. I stayed at the Camaya Bamboo Houses before visting Nusa Penida and this was easily on par with that experience in terms of natural beauty and photo opportunities.
I lived in Bali for a few months and absolutely loved the life there. Being able to stay in a place like Tropical Glamping so easily was just one of the many reasons I loved living in the island of the Gods!
The tropical glamping property
Tropical Glamping is an absolutely amazing wooden bungalow located on the east coast of Nusa Penida near to the famous Diamond beach. This whitewashed bamboo bungalow literally sits at the edge of a cliff overlooking the towering cliffs of Nusa Penida. It’s claim to fame is definitely the net bed that is suspended so perfectly over the cliff that it makes it seem like you’re hovering in the air.
Tropical Glamping runs perhaps one of the most successful Instagram campaigns I’ve seen in Indonesia. They have a constant rotation of content they post with beautiful girls that stay at the property and posting their Insta-worthy content. The FOMO that ensues from this is no joke.
The net bed bungalow
From the net bed, I could actually see Manta rays swimming in the ocean below which was an incredible experience to wake up to. Yes, I saw seven manta rays at once just cruising along the shallows!
The bungalow itself is decorated with luxury and beauty in mind. The finishes and overall construction were just amazing and so inviting. I only stayed here a night which is probably all you need as there isn’t much going on in this part of Nusa Penida. Make sure to book well in advance during normal non COVID times.
Booking a night at the Tropical Glamping
I stayed in Nusa Penida for a week to dive and see the island. I stayed on the Western side of the island for the majority of my trip as that is where the main town and all the diving happens.
Once I was finished with my diving, I decided to spend a night on Nusa Penida’s famous eastern coast to see all the beautiful sights like Diamond Beach and the Instagram tree house. I stayed one night at Tropical Glamping because its picture with the netbed views looked incredible.
As I visited during COVID, I stayed here with an incredible discount and paid roughly $85 USD per night. In normal times, this price is much higher but certainly worth it in my opinion for a night or two.
If I could do it over again, I would probably stay here two nights just so I could enjoy it even more. The sunrise over the net bed is not to be missed and certainly will never be forgotten!
Where is Tropical Glamping
Tropical Glamping is located on Nusa Penida’s wild Eastern coast. It is located 5-10 minutes by scooter away from the famous Diamond Beach.
Tropical Glamping is located nearby to the main village on the Eastern side of Nusa Penida. From the village, Tropical Glamping is located 500m down a dirt road. This was a rough scooter ride but if you aren’t comfortable doing this on your own, one of the staff will pick you up for free and take you the rest of the way.
Tropical Glamping rooms
The Tropical Glamping complex consists of two different houses. The original house is built with a huge terrace that overlooks the ocean.
The second and newer house is smaller but just as luxurious and beautiful comes with a netbed that sits directly in front of the ocean. I stayed in this unit for a night which was absolutely beautiful.
The bungalow itself is simple but luxurious. The bed is spacious and comfortable with a mosquito net. The bathroom and shower are both outdoor and have incredible views of the ocean. There’s nothing better than showering in your spacious bungalow while looking at the sun set.
During the day, I could spot from my bungalow and netbed numerous manta rays swimming in the ocean in front of me. At one point, I could see almost 10 mantas at the same time. Absolutely insane.
At night, sitting on the netbed looking at the stars above your is equally amazing. At times, it felt like I had so much to do that there wasn’t enough time to actually sleep!
The staff at Tropical Glamping
Even though Tropical Glamping consists of just two standalone houses, there is a full time staff on site that attends to your every needs. Upon arrival, the staff greeted me nearby at the main village and showed me how to actually get to the bungalow.
Upon arrival into the bungalow, I was greeted with coconuts, fruits, and light snacks. Breakfast is served every day free of charge consisting of typical Indonesian food like Nasi Goreng or Mie Goreng, fruits, coffee, juices and the works.
At any point in the day, I could contact the staff with WhatsApp to ask for things like coconuts, juice, coffee, fruits etc. Water is always provided free of charge and constantly replenished.
For dinner, there is a menu from one of the nearby restaurants which will deliver free of charge to Tropical Glamping. Having dinner in your terrace with the netbed and ocean in front of you is insane.
Visiting the nearby attractions of Nusa Penida
From Tropical Glamping, it’s very easy to visit the famous Diamond beach and other nearby sights. Diamond Beach is absolutely breathtaking and makes for fabulous photos.
Staying in Tropical Glamping meant that I could visit the beach in the morning before the day trippers from Bali make it to the island. The perfect time to visit the beach as the sun hits the cove and before the day trippers is before 11am.
In addition, the Instagram treehouse is also nearby and the best time to visit this is in the early morning before 7am. It’s very hard to get to the treehouse at that hour if you’re staying on the other side of Nusa Penida so this is perfect.
