Bali is the island of the Gods as well as the island of healing and fitness. The island offers countless fitness studios with focuses on different things that literally will suit every type of person out there. From bespoke yoga studios, to crossfit gyms, to functional training with a focus on surfing, Bali has it all.
I spent a few months in Bali which was absolutely amazing. If you are planning to stay in Bali for the long term, make sure to read why I love living in Bali so much as well as the cost of living in Bali (how much I spend in a month). I was able to visit a whole host of different gyms in different towns. Some towns in Bali definitely have a higher concentration of fitness studios and gyms but if you’re staying somewhere with tourists, you’re bound to find a place that you can get your sweat on.
For the purpose of this post, I will only focus on the larger fitness studios and more mainstream fitness options. I’m not a big yoga person so I won’t be of help to those looking to embrace their inner Eat, Pray, Love dreams but some of the gyms on this list do offer yoga classes in some capacity. Note that the prices listed for the gyms may be outdated by the time you read this. It’s just merely to get you a reference point from the time of my visit (Jan 2022).
Finally, if you’re planning to visit Bali and want recommendations for places to stay, make sure to check out my post about the best villas and hotels in Canggu!
Fitness Plus Canggu
Fitness Plus Canggu is a great option for those living the Canggu lifestyle. Fitness PLus is a small boutique gym located on a plot of rice paddies. The views are unique as I can’t remember the last time I ever worked with a view of a rice paddy!
The gym itself is small but functional. There are dumbbells that go up to 50kg which will be more than enough for even the most hardcore of gym enthusiasts. There is one bench rack, an incline bench rack, two squat racks and various machines. There are a few ellipticals and treadmills as well. The equipment is not the newest but also not totally out of date either. There is also an upstairs area with spin bikes and boxing bags.
The only downside to Fitness Plus is just the size of the gym itself. It felt cramped in because it just isn’t that big of a gym. Once 10 or more people came into the gym, it felt cramped and claustrophobic. Throw in COVID-19 with no masks and I felt like I was in a bit of a hotbox.
Avenue Fitness Canggu
Avenue Fitness is in my opinion the cheaper option to the Body Factory. It is about half the price of the Body Factory, which is still quite expensive but it is “reasonable”. The gym itself has a large gym training area with free weights, machines, treadmills and the like. The third floor offers an open functional training area for you to do more callisthenic style training.
The gym also has a sauna and steam room as well as a jacuzzi (although not sure why you need a sauna in Bali when it is already super hot). It is not that nice but at least you have the option.
Avenue is overall not that nice in my opinion but the price is somewhat more reasonable than the Body Factory. The gym just feels a bit tired and worn down. Perhaps it was just the choice of colors, lighting, or some odd combination of the above that just didn’t get me going.
Day Pass Cost: 200k
1 Month Pass: 1.4m

Body Factory Canggu
Finally, we’ve reached the penultimate gym of Bali, the Body Factory. Bali is not Bali without a gym where you can find all of Instagram’s influencers, wealthy digital nomads, and everything in between. The Body Factory is the gym for the atmosphere, trendy vibes, and upscale feel.
You can read my in depth review of the Body Factory in Bali as I ended up going to this gym for many months.
The gym itself is actually quite nice. It is fully equipped with a full weight room including dumbbells going up to 50 kg, few benches, machines, numerous squat racks, a track for sled pulls or tire flips, and more. The gym also offers numerous classes for Yoga, Hitt style trainings, and even Crossfit-esque workouts.
In addition to the gym, the Body Factory has a “recovery” area which is equipped with a beautiful plunge pool with beach chairs, and two smaller pools at differing temperatures to help you heal. This area is located next to the gym and definitely quickly becomes the place to mingle and meet people.
Body Factory also offers amazing shakes and food but at a premium price compared to what you can get just in and around Canggu.
This gym is by and far the most expensive gym in Bali, and probably one of the more expensive gyms I’ve seen anywhere in the world. The rates as of Jan 2022 were 2.7m IDR for a 1 month membership, going down in price the longer you sign up for. If you want access to the recovery area, you’ll need to get the “VIP” membership which is a whopping 4m IDR.
Yes, you read that right. 4m IDR for a full membership per month! That is $280 a month for what amounts to a gym to work out in. This is more expensive than what I paid for an all access Equinox membership in New York city, or a full Virgin Active membership in places like South Africa and London.
I honestly, didn’t think I could spend more on a gym membership after living in New York. My gym living in Frankfurt, Germany was a mere 50 Euros a month, and the most upscale gym in Frankfurt was only €100 a month.
Obviously, the Body Factory is catering to the upscale clientele of Bali that wants to see and be seen. It is one of the only gyms in Bali that caters to that upscale and trendy vibe so they can charge whatever they want for it. Personally, while it is a nice gym, I don’t think it is nearly premium enough to warrant the crazy price tag they want. However, it does not matter what I think because the gym is packed even during COVID times so it’s clear there is a wealthy enough clientele living in Canggu to keep it going.
Day Pass Cost: 300k – 500k
1 Month Pass: 2.7m – 4m
Location: Jl. Nelayan No.27, Canggu, Kec. Kuta Utara, Kabupaten Badung, Bali 80361
Victory Fitness – Canggu
For the cheapest and more basic of gyms, visit Victory Fitness in Pereranan. This is literally the most down and dirty gym I’ve ever been to. The machines here look like they’re from the 80s and are somehow still standing.
The gym is quite basic with a few dumbbells, squat racks, and a bench press that somehow works. The rust is apparent on most of the machines and I felt like I was training in those old school gyms from Arnold’s Pumping Iron movie. However, the condition of the equipment is far below that of those old school gyms. Victory Fitness is a place to go if you want to spend as little cash as possible.
The daily pass is a mere 25k IDR so you can imagine how cheap the long term memberships are. I think you should only come here if you want to spend as little money as possible and do not have many requirements for your workout. There is not even an AC in this gym which I guess is okay if you plan to work out shirtless anyhow.
Day Pass Cost: 25k
1 Month Pass: 300k
Location: Jl. Pantai Pererenan No.89, Pererenan, Kec. Mengwi, Kabupaten Badung, Bali 80351
Nirvana Strength Canggu
Nirvana Strength Bali focuses on functional strength training and calisthenics. The gym is less pumping free weights and bench press and more rope climbs and Olympic lifts. Nirvana focuses on group training with their top notch instructors to maximize your training. The staff are wonderful and always greet you with a smile. The fitness instructors are highly knowledgeable and professional in their fields and truly help you to the best of their ability to reach your fitness goals and get to where you want to be. They cater to all levels, abilities and athletes with varied backgrounds.
Whether you’re a surfer, Yogi, footballer or Dancer this space has the equipment and tools for you to reach your potential. Classes are immersive, challenging and educational. The adjoining restaurant has the tastiest grub going and the portions are HUGE, try the pancakes, they are daddy size and or the mouthwatering Omelette, which is so creamy and light while at the same time filling! I don’t know how the chefs do it, but it keeps me coming back for more!
Nirvana is also located in an incredible location with a view of the rice terraces. Literally you have a huge open space and you’re looking at at Bali’s perfect rice paddies.
Day Pass Cost: 200k
1 Month Pass: 1.4m
Location:Jl. Pantai Berawa No.8, Canggu, Kec. Kuta Utara, Kabupaten Badung, Bali 80361
Bull Gym Canggu
For the ultimate in value, the Bull Gym Canggu is by far the best deal. This gym is very large with much more equipment on offer than the other gyms on the list. Bull Gym was built in 2019 by two fitness professionals so the gym feels new and clean. It’s not as trendy as Body Factory but it offers much more in terms of space and workout equipment than Body Factory or Avenue Fitness.
Bull Gym has a huge open space with plenty of dumbbells, barbells, bench, squat racks, machines, and more. There is more than enough space to work out here and it doesn’t feel as crowded as the other gyms on the list. There are also numerous HITT classes on offer for an additional price. There is also a large open floor space for you to do functional training.
Overall, this is probably the best gym in Canggu and is by far the best value for money gym. The monthly membership is 1m IDR which is cheaper than literally every other gym I went to besides Victory Fitness.
Day Pass Cost: 250k
1 Month Pass: 1m
Location:Jl. Raya Canggu, Tibubeneng, Kec. Kuta Utara, Kabupaten Badung, Bali 80361
DFC (Dream Fitness Center) Gym – Uluwatu
There are a number of gyms in Uluwatu but the best one I found for the value was definitely DFC gym. Located off the main road, this gym is a local style gym with a large open space. They have all the gym equipment you need including free weights, benches, squat racks, and various machines. The equipment is not of the newest quality but also doesn’t feel like you’re using someone’s basement either.
They also have a large and open functional training space. There is a jungle gym and small turf that you can use for sled pulls (although this should be much larger).
The best part of DFC gym is the cost. The one day pass is 30k IDR which is perfect for those on short visits.
Day Pass Cost: 30k
1 Month Pass: 300k IDR
Location:Jl. Kahuripan IV, Ungasan, Kec. Kuta Sel., Kabupaten Badung, Bali 80361
Muscle Beach Gym – Uluwatu
Muscle Beach gym in Uluwatu is a great option for those staying in Uluwatu looking for a cheap and high quality gym. I only came here once but it wasn’t so busy and the gym had quality equipment. It’s nothing fancy but for the price it can’t be beat.
Day Pass Cost: 180k IDR
1 Month Pass: 550k IDR
Location: 54GR+4FW, Uluwatu St Br Bakung Sari No.20 A, Ungasan, South Kuta, Badung Regency, Bali 80361, Indonesia
Gymnasium Bali – Ubud
If you’re staying in the Ubud area, then look no further, this is the gym to be. Gymnasium is without a doubt the nicest gym in Bali and probably one of the nicest gyms I’ve ever seen. They have a huge space with ultra modern equipment in a beautifully designed interior.
The gym is set up with all the free weights, squat racks, barbells, and machines that you could ever want. There is even a crossfit area on its own separate floor. The gym also provides free towels and drinking water.
Without a doubt, if you want the nicest and most comfortable gym in Bali, this is the one for you. However, unless you’re living in the Ubud area, this gym is probably out of reach for the regular workout.
Wanderlust Crossfit – Canggu
Wanderlust is a top notch crossfit gym in Canggu. If you are a crossfitter or gym goer and in the Canggu area then do yourself a favour and drop in to Crossfit Wanderlust. Coaches are experienced and friendly. Classes are on the larger side but this is well managed by having multiple coaches on the floor during each class. Open gym is open all day. It even has a hangout area with cafe offering freshly cooked meals and protein shakes.
The gym itself is massive. It’s got enough room for many people powerlifting at the same time. The equipment is also top notch as you’d expect from a gym of this caliber. Prices are also reasonable for a crossfit gym. The community aspect of this gym is strong so it’s a great place to meet fellow like minded people.
S2S Crossfit is another top notch Crossfit gym in Canggu. The space is smaller than Wanderlust Crossfit but there’s still plenty of space to have a great workout. The trainers and classes here are top notch with something for all levels. The sense of community at S2S is strong and you’re bound to make new friends that quickly become family.
Prices are also very reasonable at 1.4 IDR for a month’s membership.
Rai Fitness – Kuta
Rai Fitness is one of the OG gyms in Bali. It’s been around for quite some time and was definitely the gym hotspot for all the Aussie bros coming to Bali looking to get a pump on before the beach club. The gym is huge with an incredible amount of different weight training options.
Rait Fitness has their unique dark red and black trim on all their equipment which I actually quite like. If you’re in the Kuta area, this is the gym for you.
