Canggu is one of the hottest and most desirable areas to stay in Bali. I lived in Canggu and numerous other areas of Bali for almost 5 months and absolutely loved it. I didn’t just stay in one place of course and traveled all over Bali and Indonesia to places like Komodo and Raja Ampat.
Canggu is the ultimate place for a digital nomad to stay for an extended period of time but is also the perfect place for short term tourists looking for that bohemian area of Bali known for its amazing restaurants, cafes, bars, and beach clubs. There is something for everyone in Canggu.
Canggu does not have big hotel chains
Canggu started out as a small surfing village. It really only started to become big from 2017. Before that, there were more rice fields than anything else and it was an area that few people visited. However, as Canggu is located directly north of Seminyak, it was inevitable that the development of restaurants and housing would take over.
Nowadays, Canggu is the in place in Bali and there are many incredible places to stay. As Canggu is relatively new, there aren’t many big hotel chains in the area. I think this is for the better as it preserves the greenery and nature much more than places like Seminyak, Legian, and Kuta.
You will not find big beautiful 5* hotels in Canggu, it’s best to go to Uluwatu and Nusa Dua for this. Instead, Canggu is known for its beautiful villas and smaller boutique hotels. Canggu is all about exploring the neighboring restaurants and cafes so you don’t need to spend as much time in your accommodation.
For this post, I’ll list my favorite villas and hotels in the Canggu, Berawa, and Pererenan areas. If Canggu is not your cup of team, make sure to read my Bali neighborhood guide which explains the different areas of the island and which one is best for you.
Canggu vs Berawa vs Pererenan
I was very confused when I first moved to Bali about the difference in these areas. Canggu, Berawa, and Pererenan are all located adjacent to each other. Personally, I consider them to all be a part of the same general area but people like to make the distinction. It’s a 5 minute bike ride from Pererenan to Canggu and another 5 minute bike ride to Berawa (maybe 10 depending on the traffic on the shortcut!).
Berawa is more built up than the other two areas with more restaurants, villas, cafes, and of course traffic. Canggu along Batu Balong is less congested but also packed full of restaurants and cafes nowadays. Pererenan is the furthest north of the three areas and is probably what Canggu was a few years ago. It is definitely the most quiet and the least amount of traffic which might appeal to many people especially when the traffic gets really bad.
It seems a bit silly to consider these places totally different but they are. For the purpose of this post, I’ll just consider them to all be a part of Canggu.
Villas for bigger groups
The villas on this list are primarily for 1-4 people. If you are a big group and want one of the big baller villas that you see on Instagram or other travel magazines, the best option will be using Airbnb.
For the purpose of this post, I’ll be focusing only on villas that are part of a greater complex of other villas. These are not cheap accommodations by any means because running a villa and dealing with all the things that go wrong is expensive. Don’t expect bargain prices.
However, the prices for your own private pool and luxurious room is quite cheap compared to other places around the word. Expect to budget between $75 to $150 for a nice villa in Canggu.
Uwu Villas
My favorite villa in Canggu has to be the Uwu Villas. I stayed here for many days during the COVID time frame with a big discount on the price.
This villa has a beautiful pool and a deck that overlooks the rice fields directly in front. The room is also specious with a comfortable bed and large open bathroom but the real charm in this villa is the view of the rice fields. It’s also located centrally on Batu Bolong so you are close to all the action.
The Uwu Villas feature two villas; one 4 bedroom villa and a one bedroom villa. They are located right next to each other and the 4 bedroom villa is great for a big group of people looking to enjoy Bali.

Theanna Villas
Theanna Villas are located on Batu Bolong and are probably the nicest villas you can rent for the price. Theanna villas has 20 different villas with different interiors all equipped with a large bedroom and a welcoming plunge pool.
In addition, the Theanna has a communal area with a large restaurant and a huge pool. I didn’t use the communal pool much because why bother when I had my own pool at my own luxury.

Aradhana Villas
Another one of my favorites is Aradhana. This villa is located in the heart of Berawa away from the the main strip and noise. The property features numerous 1 bedroom and 2 bedroom villas with beautiful plunge pools and the utmost of privacy. Aradhana also offers free breakfast which is tasty but I always opted out of it because of the countless cafes and brunch restaurants nearby.
The room itself at Aradhana is a bit small but there is plenty of outdoor space where you can store your stuff without worrying about the rain.

Astera Villas
Astera villas are newly built villas from 2021 located on a strip of still existing rice fields. The villa complex features 20 1 bedroom villas and a beautiful communal pool. The villas also have a spacious house and a beautiful pool with outdoor showers.

Villa Sally
Villa Sally is located in Berawa nearby to the Milk and Madu cafe. This villa complex features a collection of 1 bedroom and two bedroom villas for short term rent. These villas are very spacious with a fully equipped kitchen and a spacious outdoor living room. I never stayed here but had a friend that lived here long term during COVID on a monthly basis. The property is very luxurious albeit not as modern as other villas I’ve stayed at.

Villa Markisa
Villa Markisa is located in the heart of Canggu near to Echo Beach. These villas are relatively new featuring beautiful rooms and pools. It’s a bit more basic than other villas on this list but it makes up for it in price and charm.

Zin Canggu
Zin Canggu is one of my favorite co-working cafes in Bali. It has a huge space that offers great coffee and food but also doubles as a coworking space. It is entirely free so you can save yourself hundreds of dollars a month on places like Tropical Nomad and B-Work. Zin also features a luxurious spa and an amazing hotel.
Zin doesn’t have standalone villas with private pools but they have very comfortable rooms with a giant communal pool. I really enjoyed the massages at the Zin Spa and would definitely stay in their rooms as well.

La Paradis Villas Pererenan
La Paradis villas is a great option for those looking to stay in the more quiet area of Pererenan. These villas all come with a large spacious room and indoor bathroom. The pool is one of the largest pools I’ve seen for villas of this price.
La Paradis is located in Pererenan away from the big crowds of Canggu. It is not as expensive as similar villa complexes.

Shore Amora Spa and Resort
The Shore Amora is another villa complex locate in Pererenan. This hotel features amazing bohemian-industrial style, eco friendly villa with private pool in the heart of Canggu. The villas are spacious with high ceilings and a beautiful pool. The staff are friendly and very helpful as well.
The common area features a large pool with lounge chairs and a restaurant serving Bohemian fare. The Shore Amora is easily one of the most luxurious villa complexes in Canggu and a perfect place to spend a night or a month. I can highly recommend it.
