My Absolute Favorite Sunset Spots in Bali

Bali is one of my favorite places in the world and their insane sunsets are one of the reasons why. I lived in Bali on and off for a few years now and can never get enough of it. It’s filled with incredible cafes, beautiful restaurants, top gyms and much more. However, one of my favorite reasons to live in Canggu was the accessibility of the beach from my villa; a beach that offered stunning sunsets day in and day out.

There are so many places in Bali for you to choose to watch your sunset so how do you possibly decide with so many different options? Well this post will hopefully help you sort through those tough life questions!

Where to watch the sunset in Bali?

For starters, you’ll be watching any sunset from the west coast of the island. This means you’ll be able to witness the sunset from places like Kuta, Seminyak, Canggu, Jimbaran, Uluwatu and more. If you’re staying in Sanur, Nusa Dua, or Ubud, you won’t be watching any sunsets unfortunately.

Bali is spoiled with countless options from local beach shacks, beach clubs, beach bars, restaurants, cliffs, beach, and everything in between where you will be able to catch a sunset. Here is a list of my favorite places that I’ve discovered while living in Bali.

I will add more to this list as time goes on and I discover new places!

Echo Beach

Living in Bali for so long meant countless sunsets to be had. For me, nothing is better than enjoying a coconut while watching the sunset because it really reminds me daily why I love living in Bali so much. For me, my favorite spot has always been at Echo Beach in Canggu.

Bali echo beach sunset canggu

This stretch of beach extends from Canggu into Pererenan and is my absolute favorite spot to catch sunset on any given day. What I love about this beach is the endless amounts of beach side warungs where I know I can always grab a seat with front row views of the sunset. There are about a dozen warungs that set out bean bags on the beach and operates on a first come first serve basis. Don’t worry, you will always be able to find a spot!

Coconuts and sunsets, can’t beat this

Each warung has a simple but comprehensive menu of Indonesian classics and various western options. I’ve rarely eaten at these warungs because I mostly come here for either a beer or a coconut. Most of the time it is just a coconut! Because they are local run, expect prices to run on the cheaper side with coconuts at 25-30k IDR and a Bintang going for similar prices.

While it does get busy, again, you will always be able to find a place to watch the sunset, and soak in the Bali crowds consisting of tourists, locals, and long term foreigners living on the island.

La Brisa at Echo Beach

Within Echo Beach, there are fancier and more upscale options than just a beach side warung. La Brisa is probably the most famous of the beach bars on Echo Beach. While it’s not a typical beach club with the same party vibes as a place like Finns, it is definitely an elevated experience for you to enjoy your Bali sunset.

Make sure to make reservations at La Brisa as it gets very busy during certain times of the year.

Sunset Point at Echo beach

If you’re not feeling the beach side warungs or the more upscale La Brisa, the sunset point cafe is by far the best option. This little cafe/restaurant perched above the beach near to the Echo Beach parking lot is a wonderful place to soak in the sunset. There are plenty of shared tables, bean bags, and bar stools where you can grab a view of the sunset. I’ve been here numerous times now and it’s absolutely one of my favorite new spots in Bali for the sunset.

Luma Beach Club

Luma Beach Club in Nyanyi (close to Tanah Lot) is the hottest new beach club in Bali. The beach club only opened in 2024 thanks to a Russian tech mogul that cashed out of his IPO and decided to build one of the largest real estate projects in Bali. Gotta love the Russians. In addition to this enormous beach club, they are also building restaurants, villas, schools, and who knows what else. They want to turn this area into the new Canggu.

Regardless of this huge project, Luma beach club offers an incredible view and sunset. It faces due west and is located over the ocean which means you have incredible views of the horizon and sunset. While the space is huge, be sure to make a reservation ahead of time as it gets very busy around sunset (especially on the weekends). If you’re going to drive all the way out to this beach club, you might as well make a whole day out of it which is what we did (arriving around 1pm).

In true Russian style, they even have top end shisha which is probably one of my favorite activities to do around sunset. Shisha with a view + sunset is peak life!

Sol Rooftop Bar in Pererenan

Sol Pererenan is one of my favorite rooftop bars in Bali. This beautiful space sits right at the end of Pererenan road and has stunning views over the ocean. The space itself is ultra Bali-esque with spacious seating, net beds, a pool, and comfy rattan sofas lining the entire space. It’s the perfect place to enjoy a view and watch the trendy Bali crowd do their thing.

I absolutely love the upstairs area which is perfect for unobstructed views over the ocean. Sol is also one of the few places in Bali that offers Shisha with a view. While I love smoking shisha, I mostly prefer it as a relaxing thing to do while having an amazing view (which is why I love spending time in Dahab, Egypt). For me, there’s nothing better than having my coconut and shisha while looking out over the ocean!

Skool Kitchen in Canggu

Skool Kitchen is one of my favorite restaurants in Bali among the countless amazing restaurants Bali has to offer. However, Skool also doubles as an amazing outdoor bar on the beach with perfect views of the sunset. The trendy vibe here is perfect for those that want something more intimate and more upscale. Make sure to come early as the seating is limited for a perfect view of the ocean and sunset!

Tanah Lot

Tanah Lot is one of the most well known tourist attractions in all of Bali. This ancient temple is one of the must see destinations for first time Bali visitors as it is so close to the Canggu and Seminyak areas.

However, as beautiful as the temple is, it does get very crowded throughout the day. The best way to avoid the crowds is to head up the stairs when you enter the temple to the restaurant area. After you climb up the stairs, there are a collection of warungs here that have seating overlooking the cliff and ocean. The sunset can be witnessed here overlooking the ocean and the famous Tanah Lot temple. It doesn’t get much more Bali than this.

This area for some reason does not see a lot of crowds. I suppose this is probably because people just visit the temple and leave. If you’re going to come all the way to visit Tanah Lot, one of the options is to come around the sunset time so you can see the temple and grab a sunset out of it at the same time.

El Kabron Beach Club, Uluwatu

El Kabron Beach Club in Uluwatu is a gem perched on the cliffs of Bali’s southwestern coast, offering one of the most breathtaking sunset experiences you can find on the island. The club is designed in a Mediterranean style, with whitewashed walls, terracotta accents, and a stunning infinity pool that seems to blend seamlessly into the Indian Ocean.

Visiting El Kabron for sunset is a blend of luxury and natural beauty. As you arrive, you’re greeted by the sound of chill-out music, creating a relaxed yet sophisticated atmosphere. The club’s elevated position provides panoramic views of the ocean, making it the perfect spot to watch the sun dip below the horizon.

Guests can choose between lounging by the pool, where plush daybeds and cabanas await, or sitting at one of the cliffside tables. As the sun begins its descent, the sky transforms into a canvas of vibrant oranges, pinks, and purples, reflecting on the ocean’s surface. The staff often serves refreshing cocktails and tapas-style dishes, enhancing the experience with flavors that complement the stunning visuals.

The vibe at sunset is tranquil yet lively, as people gather to take in the view, snap photos, and enjoy the moment. The sound of the waves crashing against the cliffs below adds to the ambiance, creating a sense of being on the edge of the world.

El Kabron is not an every day sunset type of spot but rather somewhere to enjoy for a special occasion. You can come with a big group of friends or just have a romantic couples getaway. I would recommend coming here around 4pm, have a few drinks, and watch the sun set slowly over the Uluwatu cliffs. The pool is a perfect place to party with your friends but unlike places like Finns beach club, El Kabron is classy and chilled.
