Liveaboards

Liveaboards are the ultimate scuba diving experience. You spend a week or more on an boat of your choice, sail, and dive in the best dive destinations in the world. This is an experience for the slightly more experienced diver and for the divers that want the best of the best!

Asia

In my opinion, Southeast Asia offers the best diving in the world. The biodiversity is far denser here than anywhere else in the world, particularly in the “coral triangle”.

Komodo National Park, Indonesia

Best time of year to go: Year round but the wet season is best for massive amounts of Manta rays
Blog Posts: Diving in Komodo | Divemaster Course in Komodo
Description: My favorite dive destination in the world (so far at least). The amount of marine life here is overwhelming and the conditions of the corals pristine. The best part? Huge schools of Manta rays feeding at and below the surface. The currents here can be quite hectic but is well worth it to interact with these gentle giants.

Borneo, Malaysia

Best time of year to go: Nov-May

Cebu, Phillipines

Best time of year to go: Nov-May
Blog Posts: Thresher sharks of Malapascua | The sardine run in Moalboal
Description: Cebu is perhaps the Philippines most popular dive destination. Malapascua to the north is home to the thresher sharks, a beautiful shark with a scythe-like tail longer than its body. In the south, Moalboal is a super chilled out and rustic town that is home to one of the largest schools of sardines in the world (in the millions.)

Ishigaki, Japan

Best time of year to go: Jun-Nov

The Maldives

Best time of year to go: Central and North – May to Nov | South – Dec to Apr
Blog Posts: Diving at the Park Hyatt Hadahaa | One Week liveaboard in the Central atolls | Thoddoo and Rasdhoo, Maldives
Description: The Maldives is a divers paradise. With a thousand islands at its disposal, there are countless reefs and places to dive. The central atolls are home to some of the densest fish populations I’ve seen. In certain places, mantas and whale sharks come out in full swing like the famous Hanifaru Bay. In the Southern atolls during outgoing currents, huge schools of oceanic sharks and giant mantas can be seen as well as beautiful coral reefs.

Africa

Africa is synonymous with wild exotic animals and endless savanna, but there’s just as much life to be found underwater as there is above. Aside from Egypt’s Sinai province, most of the continent is still relatively unchartered waters for divers.

Sinai, Egypt

Best time of year to go: May-Oct
Blog Posts: Dahab Diving | Brothers, Daedalus, Elphinestone liveaboard
Description: The Red Sea offers some of the best diving in the world, second in my opinion to that of Southeast Asia. The corals are still in pristine conditions and marine life is abundant. For the best dives, go on a liveaboard from Hurghada to the south of Egypt (bordering Sudan).

Ile Sainte Marie, Madagascar

Best time of year to go: May-Nov
Blog Posts: Guide to Ile Sainte Marie
Description: Diving in Ile Sainte Marie is not as good as the diving on Nosy Be. I would recommend coming here for the humpback whales but doing the brunt of your dives in Nosy Be.

Quirimbas Archipelago, Northern Mozambique

Best time of year to go: May-Nov
Blog Posts: Guide to the Quirimbas Archipelago
Description: One of the last bastions of unspoiled paradise, the few travelers that make it up to this part of the world will be blessed with some of the most pristine conditions you can find.

The Caribbean

Cozumel Marine Reserve

Best time of year to go: Dec-June
Blog Posts: Diving in Cozumel
Description: Cozumel is one of the most popular places to dive in the world, Its famous for its effortless drift dives through the beautiful Mesoamerican Barrier Reef. Unfortunately, hurricanes in the past decades have really destroyed a lot of this ecosystem.

Caye Caulker, Belize

Best time of year to go: Dec-June
Blog Posts: Diving in Belize | Guide to Diving the Great Blue Hole
Description: Belize is world renowned for its Belize barrier Reef and the Great Blue Hole that attracts thousands of divers each year.

Providenciales, Turks and Caicos

Best time of year to go: Dec-June
Blog Posts: Diving in Turks and Caicos
Description: Turks and Caicos is famous for its shallow banks and its seemingly endless idyllic views of bright turquoise water. Underneath the surface, it is a popular and almost guaranteed place to see many reef sharks at once.

Little Cayman, Cayman Islands

Best time of year to go: Nov-May
Blog Posts: Guide to Little Cayman Diving | Grand Cayman Diving
Description: Little Cayman is in my opinion the best diving in the Caribbean. The coral reefs are incredibly colorful, visibility fantastic, and overall conditions are great. I’m not a fan of the island itself as it doesn’t offer much in terms of food or drinks but it’s a sleep place meant for an older crowd (so it’s expected).

Guadeloupe

Best time of year to go: Dec-June
Blog Posts: Guide to Guadeloupe
Description: Guadeloupe’s Jacques Cousteau reserve is home to some fantastic marine life and corals. I wasn’t completely wow’d by the diving here but the prices are cheap in comparison to the rest of the Caribbean. I’ve been told that Ile Des Saintes at the southern tip of the island is absolutely amazing diving however!

Utila, Honduras

Best time of year to go: Dec-May
Description: Utila is one of the cheapest diving destinations in the world, and by far the cheapest in the Caribbean. It is a hotbed for divers looking to turn pro and also a great place to party (whilst diving). The diving is not that great but the vibe and cost will make up for it.[/vc_column_text][/vc_column][/vc_row]
