Of course, I would be a big advocate for South Africa, having lived there myself, but I really do think it’s an amazing spot for a holiday. Whether you are a luxury-seeker wanting somewhere you can really indulge, or an adventurous family looking to go on a safari and learn more about the area. Here are 5 reasons you need to make South Africa your next holiday spot.
One of the best things to do in South Africa is to go on a safari. Head to the popular Kruger National Park to catch sight of the Big Five – elephants, rhinos, Cape buffalo, leopards and lions! Choose a walking tour if you want to get up close to the flora and fauna too, and learn about how it all works as one ecosystem. Alternatively, choose a photography-focused offering to get the best shots of these incredible creatures. There is nothing quite like seeing these majestic beasts up close in real life.
Ideal for a honeymoon
My friends decided that they would go to South Africa instead of having a traditional all-inclusive beach vacation for their honeymoon, and they had an amazing time. If you do want to spend some time on the beach there are some really stunning options around, and the sunsets in South Africa really are something to see, as well. Many couples don’t just want to sit around and relax during their honeymoon, they want a bit of adventure and to make some once in a lifetime memories, and this is where South Africa is perfect.
If you enjoy a little tipple or two, the Winelands of South Africa is a must-visit. Not far away from Cape Town (which is worth a visit in itself!) is the Boland, a fantastic wine-producing area that is very popular with tourists and locals alike. See how the wine is created and, of course, enjoy a taste of the produce. A lot of the wineries offer tasting platters to explore different pairings, including pies, olives or even little picnic baskets, so this is ideal for foodies too!
Learn about the past
There is a lot of history to explore in South Africa and better than reading a book is to visit the places where they happened. Check out the battlefields of KwaZulu Natal to learn about the colonial past of the country or head to Robben Island if you want to focus on more recent history. Make sure you take the opportunity to speak to locals as they will give you an insight that you can’t find in books or on documentaries.
There are so many stunning views that will take your breath away in South Africa. From the craggy mountains of Cape Town to watching the sunset over the plains of Kruger National Park. If you are a fan of hiking and climbing, take a trip up Table Mountain to see the incredible views from the top.
So, whether you want to catch sight of a lion chasing his prey, sit on some white-sand beaches or enjoy a glass of wine (or three!), South Africa is an amazing choice for a vacation. Perfect for families, couples and even solo travellers. What are you waiting for? Pack your bags and book your flights! What do you think are the best reasons to visit South Africa?
