Lisbon, Portugal
And first on that list is Lisbon, Portugal’s capital and a city that is incredibly calm and chilled out. Similar to Porto in the north of the country, there are relaxed vibes and a bustling cafe culture that makes it a great place for work.
The great weather, friendly people and wealth of coffee shops does make it one of the best European countries for working from home, while you can generally get a pretty good internet connection, particularly from your hotel.
Bali, Indonesia
For those that want more of a travelling experience, a long-haul trip to the magnificent landscape of Bali is a great option. With a strong expat community, you’ll find many freelancers touring the Indonesian island, although time difference is something you need to consider here.
However, with a laptop in hand you can explore some of Bali’s great wonders, while the ability to get a tourist visa is cheap and easy.
Chiang Mai, Thailand
Similarly, Chiang Mai is also awash with amazing places to see, while there’s plenty of availability to get your laptop out in a coffee shop, cafe or hotel and work. There’s a welcoming community in the Thai city.

Perhaps a little more obscure, Estonia’s capital Tallinn is a real underrated European destination and while you may not feel the need to spend weeks in the city, it can be a great stop off on a European tour.
It’s low cost, with the cost of living low here so you’ll have no issues purchasing your coffees or renting an AirBnB, all the while getting to explore a medieval city with lots of tales to tell.
Buenos Aires, Argentina
There are few better places to visit in South America than Buenos Aires. It’s an incredible city with a real hustle and bustle to it. For anyone wanting a break but still want that vibe of the big city, then this is a great option.
It’s a tech-friendly city, while Sol Salute summed up the Argentinian capital perfectly:
“Buenos Aires is a massive, metropolitan city. It’s an obvious choice for life long travelers thanks to a constantly improving food scene, an engaged and active immigrant community, and “easy” visa requirements.
The main draw for most digital nomads in Buenos Aires is the strength of the dollar. Life is much easier in Argentina if you earn a stable, foreign salary.”
Barcelona, Spain
Over in Spain, Barcelona offers the perfect blend of a big city living with the beach. It’s a real hybrid of a place to stay and it’s why so many choose the Catalonian capital as a place to live, work and play.
With a warm climate and a great beach, alongside some pretty gorgeous dining options, the Barca life is something everyone can get on board with, particularly if you want to live like a local in the town.
Vietnam: Da Nang and Hoi An
Back to East Asia now, and Vietnam can often be a good country to combine with Thailand and Indonesia, travelling through the three while still picking up work. It’s something many freelancers do, choosing to work when they please while exploring and enjoying everything they have to offer while away from the laptop.
And Vietnam does have a lot to offer. It’s Wi-Fi speeds are generally good and there are plenty of good cafes and hotels to get set-up in for those hours where you need to be on your emails.
Serbia: Belgrade
Finally, Belgrade, Serbia’s capital is perhaps a surprising addition to the list, but one you won’t regret visiting. It’s an incredibly friendly city with lots going on, and ideal for picking up a digital nomad visa and picking up some work as you explore.

As we get towards the end of 2026, many people will be looking for winter wonderland destinations to enjoy and the likes of Belgrade and Tallinn will certainly provide that alongside the likes of Vienna and even Paris.
However, you can’t ignore the tropics and the Caribbean, East Asia and even the Canary Islands may be an option for those wanting to catch some sun as the winter draws in across many parts of the world.
